Roy D. Stump
Roy D. "Red" Stump, 80 of Lorain died early Friday morning December 9, 2005
at Community Health Partners and Surgical Center in Lorain following a long
illness.
Mr. Stump was born in Grantsville, WV on January 3, 1925. He was a US
Army veteran, serving in France, Belgium and Holland during WWII. He served
from 1943-1946 as a Pvt with the 787th Anti-aircraft battalion Companies A &
B. He received three Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater
Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and World War II
Victory Ribbon.
He moved to Lorain in 1960 and was retired in 1983 from Ford Motor
Corp-Brookpark Plant. He worked as a repairman in the Engine plants 1 & 2
and retired with 33.5 years service. He received his GED from Clearview in
2002. He also attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church. After his
retirement from Ford he worked in security at the former Still Country
Bar on SR 113 for 15 years.
Mr. Stump drove a race car for several
years at Lorain Motor Speedway. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching
professional wrestling. He was a member of the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria,
American Legion Post 30 in Lorain and UAW 1250 Brookpark.
He is survived by his wife Jean B. (nee Hupfer) Mielcarek Stump to whom
he was married on March 23, 1990, step daughters: Pam J. Cothran, Jean B.
Barger, Michelle A. Varady all of Lorain, Mary L. Clark of Clarksville TN,
Margaret P. Butcher of Columbus, step sons: Steven E Mielcarek of Columbus,
Michael E Mielcarek of Lorain, 12 step grandchildren, 4 great step
grandchildren, sisters Alice Pearl Graham of Elyria and Gladys Abbey of
Norwalk, OH.
Mr. Stump is preceded in death by his parents Sherman & Cora J. (nee
Deems) Stump and 8 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Monday, December 12, 2005 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 10:30 am in the
funeral home with Rev. Darlene Robinson, pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist
Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township,
OH with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 30, VFW Post
451 and VFW Post 1079.
