John David Virant
John D. Virant, 68, of Lorain died Tuesday evening, March 22, 2011 at his
home following a long illness.
Mr. Virant was born in Lorain on October 19, 1942, the son of the late John
L. Virant and Irene (nee Erdy) Virant, of Lorain, who survives.
A lifelong resident of Lorain, he was a graduate of Lorain High School,
class of 1960. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a
member of First Congregational Church in Lorain.
Mr. Virant was a retired foreman with Lorain City Utilities Department. He
worked for the city for more than 34 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #552, and the American Legion Post #30.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and especially summering in his
Loudonville Ohio home.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons David J. Virant of Lorain,
Michael Murr of Amherst, daughters Cindy (Mike) Doane of Wakeman, Lynda
Gezzer of Amherst, Patti (Steve) Hickman of New London, 9 grandchildren, 7
great grandchildren, and a brother Mike (Janice) Virant of Summersville, SC.
Mr. Virant was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E. (nee Murr) Virant
in 2006 and his father in 2008.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. in the Schwartz,
Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Following the visitation, a Celebration Of Life will be held at the funeral
home with Rev. Dr. Kelly Brill, pastor of the Avon Lake United Church of
Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Grove Street Cemetery in New London at a later date.
The family suggest that memorial contributions maybe made to Lake View Park Rose Program, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, Ohio 44050.
