James Sutorus
James A. Sutorus, 91 of Lorain passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at
Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a long illness.
Mr. Sutorus was born in Elyria on December 18, 1919, the son of the late
Joseph J and Ann (nee Adams) Sutorus. He was a graduate of Lorain High
School in the class of 1937. He lived in Lorain most of his life.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain. He served in the US
Navy during WW II.
Mr. Sutorus was a retired carpenter-dock master at the American Ship
Building Co. in Lorain. He retired in 1982 following 42 years service. He
was a member of the Lorain Moose Club. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling,
golf and playing cards
He is survived by his daughters: Patricia (Robert) Wash of Lorain, Diane Sutorus of Vermilion, sons James D (Cher) Sutorus of Raleigh NC, Randy J
(Carolyn) Sutorus of Broken Arrow, OK, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great
grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, in 2009 he was preceded in death by his wife,
Virginia M. (nee Foltz) Sutorus, to whom he was married on Nov. 1939, his
granddaughter Jennifer Beeson, great granddaughter Haley Austin, sisters
Catherine Morrison, Marg Latham, Pat Knudsen, brothers Arther E Sutorus, and
Joseph Sutorus.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 9:00 am until prayers
at 10:30 am in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W.
5th Street, Lorain. Following our prayers, a Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at the Church of St. Peter Catholic Church, 3509 Oberlin Ave.,
Lorain, at 11:00 am with Father John C. Retar, officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
