          Michael Joseph Mealey

Michael J Mealey, 54, of Lorain, died unexpectedly in the emergency room of Mercy Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 16th, 2011, despite the heroic efforts of members of the Lorain Police Department and Lifecare EMS personnel,.

He was born in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts on October 20th, 1956 to James and Rita (Leydon) Mealey.  As a young boy his family moved to Sheffield Lake, where Michael graduated from Brookside High School with the class of 1975.

Michael worked for General Motors in Elyria for 10 years, until they closed.  He was then hired by the Ford Motor Company, Avon Lake Assembly Plant, where he worked as a team leader in the paint department for the past 24 years.

He married the love of his life, Randi (Krieg) Mealey on August 2nd, 1980 and settled in Lorain, where they raised a son and a daughter.  He was an avid golfer and golfed on the St. Anthony’s Wednesday night league at Fox Creek Golf Club.  Together with his wife, he loved to travel, with his favorite destinations being Key West, the Caribbean, and taking cruises.  Michael and his wife just returned from a trip to Key West last week.  However, his proudest  accomplishment was the success of his children Airyn and Michael, and he was always happy to help them in any way he could.  They truly were the light of his life.

Michael was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Randi (Krieg), daughter Airyn Christine of Lorain, and son Michael James of Lorain.  He is also survived by his mother Mary Rita (Leydon) Mealey of Avon Lake, sister Maureen (Joseph) Novotny of Lorain, brothers James (Debbie) of Susanville, CA, Thomas (Susan) of Avon Lake, Patrick (Betty) of Quincy, CA, John of Cleveland, as well as 7 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 grand nephew, and 3 grand nieces.  He was preceded in death by his father James Thomas Mealey in September of 1984.

Family, friends, and loved ones may call Wednesday July 20th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the  Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.  A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 21st at 10 am in  St. Anthony of Padua Church,  1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Oh.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in Michael’s memory.

Randi & family....
Our deepest condolences with the loss of your husband and Father.  While I did know of Michael to some degree at Ford, and recognized the name, I could only recall his positive leadership abilities at Ohio Assembly.
Randi, I was so saddened when I realized I was reading of your husband.  Sharon and I will keep you in our prayers.
Michael will be long remembered and sorely missed.
May God bless you, and provide you the warmth of his love.

To the Mealey family,
My heart goes out to you for your loss!  Mike was such a nice person and I truly enjoyed working with him the past several months in paint.  He always had a smile and never lost his temper nor was he ever down.  He was always so positive and always had a kind word and time to chat with everyone.  He will be so sorely missed.  Michael, your father spoke to me of you (I'm Kate Newsome's mom) often and of how proud he was of you and your accomplishments.  You were truly a joy to him.  Keeping you in prayer and praying "Grant unto him Eternal rest, O Lord, and may Perpetual Light shine upon him.  May he rest in peace, Amen.
Sincerely,
Mary Donovan Springowski and family.
