Doris C. McAuley
Doris Caroline May McAuley (nee Beckett), 84, of
Lorain, was called home to rest on June 7, 2011. Doris was
born in Sebring, OH on January 29, 1927.
She attended Sebring McKinley High School. She
left high school to help the war effort in WW II by working at the Strong
Enamel Co. making canteens for our troops.
Doris moved to Lorain in 1955.
With her husband James May, Doris was active
with her children's activities including PTA's, baseball
teams, and cub scouts to name a few.
Doris worked for Dr. P. Pastichiuw for 20 years
as a medical assistant. She was active in the Lorain County
Medical Assistants, where she was a past president. After
retirement, she spent a time giving home health exams for an
insurance company.
She was an avid bowler all her life until her
health made her quit. She had many awards and trophies and
belonged to the Lorain Bowling Assn. "600 Club." She also
enjoyed playing bridge, bingo, and her monthly bus trips to
the casinos. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose
and VFW Auxiliary.
Her family was the most important thing in the
world to her, and was her favorite thing. There was nothing
she wouldn't do for her family including going without
herself to help any of them. She loved spending time with
her great grandchildren.
Doris will be missed by her three sons; Dennis
(Nancy) May, James (Vickie) May, both of Lorain, and Thomas
(Ruby) May of Vermilion, grandchildren and step
grandchildren; Melanie Lore, Megan Perkins, Jimmy May,
Michael May, Angie May, Bobby Green, Stacey Green, and Ryan
Harris, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by; her parents,
Russell and Alta (Cower) Beckett, her husband John McAuley,
brothers, Dale Beckett and Donald Beckett, sister, Leona
Workman, nephews, James Dale Beckett and John Beckett.
Friends may call on Friday, June 10, 2011 in the
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W.
5th Street, Lorain from 6-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 11,
2011 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev.
Doug Thatcher, of Vermilion Grace United Methodist
Church, officiating.
Burial will be Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 3:00
pm in Grandview Cemetery in Sebring, with Mr.
Michael Kimball, pastor of the of Sebring Church of the Nazarene,
officiating.
The family suggests that memorial contributions
may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4500
Rockside Rd. Suite 440, Independence, OH 44131.
