Mack S. Long,
84 of Lorain passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Elyria
Memorial Regional Health Center in Elyria following a lingering
illness.
Mr. Long was born on December 2, 1926 in Lorain to the
late Fred D. and Laura E. (nee Scott) Long.
A lifelong resident of Lorain, Mr. Long graduated from
Lorain High School. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving
during WW II.
He was an active member of the Christian Temple
Disciples of Christ in Lorain.
He served as a Life Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher
and volunteered in the food pantry.
Mr. Long was a member of the F & AM Ely Lodge # 424. He
started his Masonic career with the Lorain Lodge #552 in 1947,
serving as secretary for 23 years.
He was also a member of
the Mystic Chapter # 103 R.A.M, (twice as High Priest),
Lorain Commandary # 65
K.T. ( past commander),
Lorain Council # 103 R & SM, and the Fellowcraft Club.
He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Ohio for more than
63 years, 50 year member of the Grand Council RSM of Ohio and
Grand Chapter of RAM of Ohio.
He was retired from the City of Lorain in 1991 from the
building department as an assistant building inspector with more
than 21 years service.
He had also worked at both the Nimon Company and Thew Shovel.
An accomplished roller skater, Mr. Long had been
skating since he was 15 years old at the Old Coliseum. Mr. Long
met his wife, Emma while roller skating and the two enjoyed many
years of skating together.
Mr. Long is survived by his twin daughters Laura
(Wayne) Keene, Linda
(Roy) Thompson, both of Amherst, grandchildren Lesley Hochevar,
Brian Long, Justin Keene, Aaron Keene, great grandchildren
Kailey Hochevar, Connor Hochevar, Ella Keene, Jackson Mack
Keene, sister Mildred Hellinger of Lorain and brother James
(Mary) Long of Avon Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his wife Emma (nee Lark) Long in 1992 and a son Fred D. Long in
1994.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool
Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on
Sunday, June 26, 2011 beginning at 3:00 pm and concluding with
Masonic Memorial services at 7:00 pm conducted by several
Masonic lodges.
Funeral services will be held Monday June 27, 2011 at
10:00 am in the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, 940 W. 5th
Street, Lorain with Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor,
officiating.
Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst
Township.
