Waldean LayneWaldean "Dean" Layne, 79, of Amherst passed away on Monday, January 3, 2010 at the Lakewood Hospital-Grace Unit in Lakewood following a long illness. Mr. Layne was born in Harold, KY on April 7, 1931, the son of the late Verda L. Layne. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired relief man at the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain following 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading, was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan but enjoyed all college basketball. He had an unwavering interest in all college sports. He was a Cincinnati Reds baseball fan, played softball when he was younger and coached Ford Softball League. He was most recognized as a family man, Mr. Layne is survived by his wife Shirley L. (nee Stoler) Layne, a loving daughter Kathy D (Robert) Ernst of Avon, devoted sons Jack D Layne of Lorain, Gregory M Layne of Amherst, adoring grandchildren: Jared & Jasmine and beloved great grandchildren: Julicia & Desmond. Services were private with Rev. Paula R. Marbury, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northern Ohio Chapter, 23297 Commerce Park, Cleveland, Ohio 44122.
