Kenneth Wayne Bobel

 

     Kenneth Wayne Bobel, 60, of Lorain died Monday, March 7, 2011 at his home following a short battle with cancer.

    

     Mr. Bobel was born in Lorain on April 28, 1950, the son of the late Jack E. Bobel and Shirley (nee Robinson) Bobel, of Lorain, who survives him.

    

     In 1968, he graduated from the former Lorain High School and in 1970 graduated from Lorain County Community College, receiving an associate's degree in Applied Science with a specialty in electronics. He furthered his education at the University of Akron for another year.

    

     He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Lorain. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop # 306, he received the Boy Scout God and Country Award at his church.

    

     Mr. Bobel was a ham radio operator with call letters WA8YJW. He was an auto enthusiast and collected railroad equipment and car magazines. His other interest include photography and traveling. He was a member of Lake Shore Railroad Association of Elyria.

    

     For the past 32 years, he worked at Vasu Communications, Inc. Previously, he worked at both Lorain Electronics Corp and Lorain Products.

    

     In addition to his mother, he is survived by brothers Dennis (Mari-Ellen) Bobel of Plymouth, MN., Glenn (Karen) Bobel of Brownsburg, IN, James Bobel of Lorain, several nieces and nephews, Kathryn, Matthew, Bradley, Eric, Emily, and his aunt Joyce Robinson of Lorain.

    

     He was preceded in death by his father Jack E. Bobel in 1996.

    

     A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. John's United Church of Christ, 715 W. 7th Street, Lorain, with Rev. Philip Kunz, pastor, officiating.

    

     Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at 3:30 PM on Friday, after his memorial service.

 

     The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 715 Reid Ave., Lorain 44052; Lake Shore Railway Association, Inc. PO Box 1131, Elyria, 44036; or New Life Hospice, Community Hospital Foundation, 3600 Kolbe Road, Lorain, 44053.
