David
L. Koch, 90, of Birmingham passed away suddenly, Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at
the St. Mary of the Woods Retirement Community in Avon.
David was born in Lorain on October 26, 1919, the son of the late
Curt F. and Emma (nee Hauer) Koch. He spent most of his life in Lorain,
graduating from Lorain High School with the Class 1937 B. After his
graduation, he went to work for Pittsburgh Steamship Co for the next 19
years, working up to 2nd mate officer. During the winter months when "lakers"
were laid up he worked at the family grocery and meat store, except during
the war, when he served with the Merchant Marines.
He then retired and began a career with the B. F. Goodrich (nka
Polyone) and after 25 years of service again retired.
David's enjoyed his retirement years by working on his farm in
Birmingham. where he has lived for the past 41 years. He also loved to
shop.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Ingrid G. (nee Reibe) Koch,
living at St. Mary of the Woods , a son Michael J
( Ulrike "Linda" ) Koch of
Wellington, grandsons Jurgen & Kristoff Koch, and a sister Martha M.
(Dean) Kelble of Avon Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters
Marguerite L. Csutoras and a brother Curt A. Koch.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at
2:00 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W.
5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.
Per his instructions, his cremated remains will be scattered in Lake
Superior, knowing that water from Lake Superior flows into all of the
Great Lakes, thus being in the Lakes that he loved so much.
