We are so sorry to hear of
Walter's passing. He was such a sweet man. Walter and his wife Betty would
come into our print shop just to talk and shoot the breeze. We will miss
both of them.

Growing up, Uncle Walter was my
favorite uncle. He visited us most Tuesday nights, coming to the house
while my Mom was teaching piano lessons and Dad was working at the paper.
He entertained all of us with his stories, photos, and ideas about whatever
was new in the news or science. A Tuesday night without Uncle Walter was
boring.
Learning new things was something that always excited Uncle Walter. He
wanted to expand his knowledge about everything, and he made you excited
about learning too. I recall when he got a new book on how to improve your
memory, and he worked to teach all of us the techniques. One of my favorite
possessions is the dictionary that he gave me when I graduated high school.
He wrote - "These are all the words, now go forth and learn to use them."
Uncle Walter's passion for adventure and exploring new things was
infectious. I still recall him planning his trip across Canada and the
Northern US, and listening to his stories and watching his slide show once
he returned. We talked then about planning a trip to Europe - riding bikes
and taking the Euro-Train to explore new places and people. We never did
it, but I fondly remember the time we spent talking about it.
Uncle Walter was one of a kind - I'll miss him and his wonderful laugh.
