I. Alan
Evenchik, 76, of Lorain died on Thursday evening, July 8, 2010 at the New
Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph following a brief illness.
Mr. Evenchik was born in Cleveland on January 3, 1934, the son of the
late Morris and Jean (nee Epstein) Evenchik.
He was a 1952 graduate of Lorain High School and received a
bachelor's degree in business from Kent State University in 1956.
Mr. Evenchik was a US Army veteran serving from 1956 to 1958 as a
helicopter mechanic. He spent most of his working life as a partner with
his father and brother at Evans Auto Parts in Lorain. In his free time, he
enjoyed boating and spending time with his family.
He belonged to Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue, where he served as a
trustee, treasurer and house chairman. He brought meals to ailing
community members, drove them to doctor's appointments and was happy to
assist with any needs, big or small, for anyone he knew. He also directed
the synagogue's Matzoh Fund and chaired the committee responsible for
Salem Cemetery, where he oversaw construction of a chapel that was
dedicated in June.
Mr. Evenchik is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila (nee
Eichenbaum) Evenchik, daughters Debbie (Rochelle Broome) Evenchik of
Nashville, TN and Sheri (Scott Gottschling) Kay of Amherst, son Arthur Evenchik
of Cleveland, grandchildren Shaun (Stephanie) Kay and Cory Kay, and
brother Bill (Bleema) Evenchik of Lorain.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Evenchik.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 10:00 am in the
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain. Cantor David Wolinsky will officiate.
Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, Sheffield Township.
Shiva will be observed Sunday through Tuesday, July 11-13. Friends
are welcome on Monday and Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm with services at 7:30
pm at the Evenchik home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the
Agudath B'nai Israel Synagogue, Post Office Box 326, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

enjoyed stopping by at your house on Allison Ave. when we were kids.
Keeping in touch with Arthur has always made me feel like I was also keeping
