Kathryn Lu Caywood

   Kathryn Lu Caywood,  born October 5, 1935,  passed away peacefully on January 25, 2010 taking her last breath with family by her side.

     She was born to the late Lewis and Muriel (nee Deveny) Caywood and lived a full life in Lorain along with her late sister Lynda McDermott. Being a colorful spirit, with a thirst for life, she traveled down many paths. She attended Lorain High School, Oberlin College of Commerce and Baldwin Wallace College for secretarial science. She then attended the FBI academy and became Lorain County's first female deputy sheriff. She also attended Stevens Modeling School and worked for many years doing modeling and runway for the David and Lee Agency. Other important accomplishments were working as the executive secretary at the Higbee Company, a travel agent for Svete Travel Bureau and an administrative secretary for the Greater Lorain Chamber of Commerce coordinating and teaching the princesses for the Lorain International Festival.

     Katy definitely took great pride in all her work endeavors, however her greatest pride and joy was in being a mother.  She wholeheartedly gave the greatest and most important parts of her life to raising her 6 children, Michael L. Pozega, Gregory S. Pozega, Christine L. Pozega, Mark D. Pozegas, David R. Urda and Julie K. Urda. She was supported and encouraged by her past husbands Eugene Pozega and Julius Urda.

     Katy loved being a grandmother to her only granddaughter Nicole Lynn and a friend to her daughter-in-law Carol. Her children, granddaughter and daughter-in-law were her heart. In passing, she will continue to live on in their hearts. Her love, their greatest gift.

     Additional loyal friends and relatives sharing in our loss are are Elly and Hugh, Julius Urda, Julie Grm, Julieann Urda, Marylou Valentin, the Moir family, Sean McDermott and family, Greg McDermott and family, Rick Kaczmarek and family, Lisa Kaczmarek and family, Charles and Shallia Engelburger. Your love throughout the years always brought a smile to her face.

    The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 19, 2010. A Celebration of Life will follow visitation in the funeral home with Father James Ols, pastor of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church as celebrant.

You are so dearly missed!! The BEST Step-Mother anyone could wish for. I will never forget the days when I was a little girl, you would do my hair, put you make-up on me and let me wear your high-heel shoes and of course the entire box of  Chocolate Covered Cherries that we ate.  My memories of you are forever in my heart.

From:        Rick Kaczmarek and Family

Thank you so much for all the lesson you taught me throughout life.  It's an honor, privilege and pleasure to be able to pass them on to my children to help to keep your spirit alive.  We love you more than words can say, and you are sorely missed.

NATIVE AMERICAN POEM:
I give you this one thought to keep-
I am with you still-
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone-
I am with you still-
in each new dawn.
Momma Lu, You are never far from me.........
Peace and Love in Our Hearts Forever,
                                                           Julie

What an amazing woman. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Splendor in the Grass

What through the radiance
Which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass,
of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffereing;
I the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
~William Wordsworth

This was one of my mother's favorite poems. It helps me to read it, hopefully it will help you as well.
Day by day, Love, Kim

I remember the summer day in 1965 when my brother and I went to Lorain to visit my father. This was always an anxious time for me but this particular time even more so; I was to meet my step-mother, Katie.  I was a shy twelve year old then and she was a tall dark beauty who was warm and funny and made me feel right at home.  She was not the scary step-mother type, not at all.  She immediately made herself my friend, wrapping her long arms around me; reassuring me that it would be OK.  Over the years Katie and I traveled different paths and as fate would have it met once again when I moved to San Diego; I am grateful for that. I don't know if she ever realized the impact she had on me and how much I admired her. I will always remember her as she was on that day. I will always hold a place in my heart where she will live.

Although I only met Katy once or twice, I enjoyed her.  She was spunky and full of life.  I could tell from everything she did and said that she really loved Julie.  I know that she passed on a lot of her joie de vivre to Julie, my spunky friend who is also so full of life.  Praying for the entire family,
Jenny

I'm deeply saddened by the news of Katie Lu's passing.  My thoughts and prayers are with Julie and David (my life-long friends) and the entire family.  I know how much your mother meant to you. She was a very special lady. Please know how much you are loved and how deeply your loss is felt.

Ma,
Words cannot express how I feel loosing you so soon, so quickly, and without goodbyes. But you knew how much you were loved.  I am thankful that God gave us the opportunity for you to come home one last time to be with us in October. I loved having you here with us each and every time, and I know you loved sharing the time with us, especially in our 7th Street home. I know you loved that house, and enjoyed every minute spent there. Having your own "wing" of the house you use to say.....
I will miss looking forward to your emails and updating you on everything that goes on each day. Instead you'll be able to watch from one of the best seats there are..... in heaven. For you are now an angel long with my mom and June, and you can once again join each other in your nice long "girly" talks you use to have.
You were a very special lady, and never the "typical" mother in law. Instead you were a mentor, a great listener, someone I could gain strength from.
You will always be in our hearts, and in our thoughts and prayers. I love you very much, and miss you very much, already.
Love Carol

Well, it's been a long, long time since we were neighbors on Weller Road in Elyria. Those were tough times but we helped each other survive them. Most satisfying is that we stayed close through all the subsequent years. You brought into our lives a richness that will be sorely missed. Your passing has left a void. The memories of what was talked and laughed about will help fill the void but they won't be 100%. Plain and simple; we needed you and you were there. Now we are separated. Our hearts are sad. Your spirit lives on in our hearts. We thank God who works in wondrous ways.
