Helen
G. Urbas, 91, of Lorain passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the
Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain following a long illness.
Miss Urbas was born in Lorain on September 14, 1918, the daughter of
the late Joseph and Anna (nee Virant) Urbas. She was a graduate of Lorain
High School and a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain.
Her working career was spent as a division supervisor with the US
Department of Labor in Washington, DC. Upon retirement she return home to
Lorain.
Miss Urbas was the Cleveland Federation of Slovenian Women "Woman of
the Year" in 1992; as well as past president of the Lorain Slovenian Home
where she often worked as cashier at the Friday Fish Fry. She enjoyed
reading (until her eyesight failed) and her dogs.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; Mary Ann (Paul) Landgraf of
Wellington, Charles (Lynn) Urbas of Loxahatchee, FL, Bernard (Judy) Urbas
of St. Louis, MO, Clare (Robert) Vertocnik, of Euclid, Mary Alice Wright
of Detroit, MI, John Schrenk of Lorain, Virginia (DeVere) McClaren of
Jackson, FL, Joseph (Joanne) Schrenk of North Ridgeville, Carol Barth of
Cleveland, Carmen Barth of California, Jerome (Dawn) Schrenk of Vermilion,
Valerie Barth of California, many great and great great nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters
Madeline Barth, Bernadine Schrenk and brothers Joseph Urbas, Charles Urbas,
Bernard Urbas, nephews James Schrenk and Joseph Urbas.
Friends may call on Monday, November 16, 2009 from 4-7 PM at the
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 9:00 AM in
the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary
Church, 8th and Reid Ave at 9:30 AM with Rev. James Becherer,
officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the
Salvation Army, 2506 Broadway Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 or to the charity
of the donor's choice.
