Georgieann
Shockey
Georgieann (Viconovic) Shockey departed this life Friday June 26. Her
Husband and sons were present throughout the process. She was born
September 9, 1941 to George and Violet Viconovic in Sharon,
Pennsylvania. She graduated from St Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1962
and was married in 1963.
In 1969,
she moved to Lorain the result of a transfer by US Steel . That same
year, she started work as a staff nurse at St. Joseph Hospital. Very
soon, her capabilities were recognized and she moved to Coronary Care-
the area she grew to love. In subsequent years she advanced through many
responsibilities including managing Critical Care, Shift Supervisor, and
Educator. After the 1994 merger with Community Hospital she ran the
Staffing Office, allocation nursing resources over all the units. Then
she established the Pre Admission Testing program. After that she rose
to Manager- Clinical Education. Her
focus on the quality of patient care, acute sense of compassion and fair
play and problem solving ability enabled her to advance far beyond
normal expectations for a three year Diploma nurse. She was the same
type of wife and mother. No one could outperform her. Her family came
first at all times. She exercised three days a week at the EMH Fitness
Center and developed many friends in the pool there. She belonged to a
chapter of Red Hat Ladies, Nurses Purses Investment Club and Retired St.
Joseph nurses. These three groups went to lunch often and enjoyed long
friendships. She is
survived by her husband of 45 years Garnett of Amherst Township, sons Ed
of Hawthorne N.Y., Wayne (Lori) of Hudson, Ohio and Mike (Jessica) of
Stow, Ohio, brothers Chris (Nanci) of Hubbard, Ohio, Steve of Phoenix,
and George of Durham, North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews are
scattered around the country. There are five grandchildren Nathan,
Siddhi, Sarah, Marcelo, and Silvana. She was preceded in death by her
mother and father. Friends
and family may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For
Funerals 1124 West 5th Street Lorain, Ohio Tuesday from 4-7p.m. A
memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage
Presbyterian Church at the junction of Route 58 and 2. Reverend James
Smucker will preside. A light lunch will be served afterward in the
Heritage Hall. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart
Association, American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
