Though we are not related by blood. Lela was known, affectionately, by
our family as "Grandma Lee". How do you come about calling someone not
related to you as Grandma? Let me explain. My birthright Grandmothers did
not survive to know me. However, as a young child I grew up across the
street from Lela's grandchildren - Brian and Kevin. Lela would often
times watch, Brian and Kevin, and since there were a lot of young children
in the neighborhood, she ended up with the larger task of looking out for
all of us kids. Kevin and Brian would call her Grandma, so at a young
age, we adopted the term as well. I fondly remember Grandma Lee giving
the neighborhood kids, something cool to drink on a hot summer day, or
better yet, taking us out for root beer floats at Dog n Suds in Lorain.
Eventually, Brian and Kevin moved on to New York and we moved to a
different neighborhood, but Grandma Lee never stopped being a Grandma.
When I had my First Communion Party, my Grandma was there. When I
graduated from High School, my Grandma was there. When I had my Wedding,
my Grandma was there.
Lela, I will always remember you as Grandma.
Thanks!!!!

Hi Penny,
I spoke to Alayne and Val right away when I heard the news about your
Mom. We all send our condolences. Alayne always spoke of Lela as a
second mother and I remember visiting her a few times with Alayne when she
lived in that up apartment on Broadway many years ago. Lela had a
sweet, calming affect on anyone around her.
Alayne and Jim just arrived home in Tennessee from Florida and Val and
Larry will be staying in Palm Harbor for three more weeks. So sorry none
of us can be there tonight to see you and your family.
Sincere sympathy,
Alayne & Jim,
Val & Larry,
Barb (Tom's widow)
