Nathan M. Foote

 

 

     Nathan M. Foote, 95, a resident of Wesleyan Village, Elyria, died Monday, February 16, 2009, after a short illness. 

 

     He was born October 8, 1913, in Woodlawn (Aliquippa), PA, a son of the late Myron T. and Ada Maxted Foote of Lorain, Ohio. 

 

     He is survived by daughters L. Nadine Barr, Bethesda, MD, Frances (Roy) Hawthorne, Mayfield Heights, OH, sons Jonathan (Helen) Foote, Jane Lew, WV, and Willard Foote, Arcata, CA.   He is also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother Harry Foote, Portland, ME. 

 

     He was proceed in death by his wife of 65 years, Laura Gruey Foote, two brothers Willard G. Foote and Richard M. Foote and one daughter-in-law.


     Mr. Foote retired from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, Erie, PA, as an assistant professor of physics.  He also taught at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, OH and SUNY College at Geneseo, NY.  Previously he did research at RCA and B. F. Goodrich Chemical Company.  He attended schools in Lorain, and earned degrees from DePauw University, Greencastle, IN and Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.  He was a lifetime member of several scientific associations and honoraries: Sigma Xi, American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science.


      Mr. Foote spent his retirement years in Mount Dora, Fl, where he was a member of the Lawn Bowling Club.


      Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W Fifth St, Lorain.  Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  A memorial service will be held at Wesleyan Village at a later date.


      Burial will be in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Elyria.

Nathan Foote was one of my favorite professors at Behrend, back in the mid-to-late '70s. He encouraged me to do outside reading in physics and I learned a lot from his class. My condolences to his family on their loss. God bless!
