William R. Ward

 

     William R. Ward, 64 of Amherst died at Elyria Memorial Hospital Regional Medical Campus in Elyria on Thursday, March 20, 2008 following a long illness.


      Mr. Ward was born in Elyria on October 10, 1943, the son of the late Alvin and Rose Marie (Kinter) Hellinger. He has lived in the northern Lorain County area all his life. He was a graduate of Lorain High School in the class of 1962.


     He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain, OH.


     Mr. Ward retired as the plant manager at Heatseal Manufacturing in Garfield Heights in May 2005 after 15 years of service. He also worked for Baker Material Handling in Cleveland for 25 years. 


     He enjoyed his volunteer work in the Cardiac Rehab Unit at Community Health Partners as well as his regular volunteer work at the hospital. He was a former auxiliary policeman for the Avon Police Department.


     Mr. Ward loved living near the lake,  where he fished and boated. He was a devoted husband, loved being a Dad and especially enjoyed being Grandpa to his only granddaughter. He also enjoyed his several trips to Mexico.


     He is survived by his wife of 44 years Kristine R. (nee Cooley) Ward, a daughter Amie M VanHove of Ashland, a son Daniel J Ward of Sheffield Lake, OH., granddaughter Kaci Ward of Sheffield Lake, sisters  Valerie (Chris) Woods, Denise (Tomas) Serrano both of Lorain, a brother Alvin (Patricia) Hellinger of Lorain, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He will be greatly missed by his special "buddy", his dog,  Gus.


     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son William  "Rusty" Ward in 1987.


      Friends may call on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from  2-4 & 7-9 PM  in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.


     Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 Erie Ave, Lorain, OH, with Rev. Joseph West will be the celebrant.


     The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, Northern Lake, 1689 E. 115 St. Cleveland, OH 44106.

Was heartbroken to hear of Bills passing. We had so much fun as little kids. Maybe we did not see other much as our lives moved on but when we did it was as if no time had ever passed. I dearly loved him and will miss him. God be with you in your time of need. If I can do anything to help please let me know.

I WAS SADDNED TO HEAR OF BILL'S PASSING. I WORKED WITH HIM AT HEAT SEAL AND CAME TO KNOW HIM FOR THE GREAT PERSON HE WAS. MANY PEOPLE LOOKED UP TO BILL FOR HIS KINDNESS, FAIRNESS, AND MOST OF ALL HIS WIT.HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDED IT AND SPARKLE IN HIS EYES THAT TOLD PEOPLE HE REALLY ENJOYED LIFE. I FOR ONE WAS VERY BLESSED THAT GOD GAVE ME THE PRIVILAGE OF KONWING SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON. I WILL MISS HIM GREATLY BUT HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART.
