 Mary Lou Overmire  

    Mary Lou Overmire,  of Waverly, formerly of Lorain, passed away Jan. 26 at the age of 82.  A descendant of 5 Mayflower passengers and Revolutionary War hero Christian Fast, Mary Louise was born in Mansfield, OH, on February 16, 1925, to Irl and Anna Mary (Shriver) Fast.  She graduated from Cleveland Heights HS and Ohio Wesleyan (1947).  She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

 

    On June 27, 1945, she married U.S. Navy Ensign Ray E. Overmire, Jr., who a month before had survived kamikaze attacks on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill off Okinawa.  Ray served as Executive Director of the Lorain Family Y for many years.

 

    Mary Lou taught home economics at Lorain High.  She was active in church and civic affairs, serving as President of many organizations including the Lorain branch of American Association of University Women, the Lakeland Women’s Club, Lorain Wimodasis Club, Lorain Y-Wives, and the Bristol Village Women’s Club.  She was a member of Northminster United Presbyterian Church in Lorain and Grace United Methodist Church in Waverly.  She loved cats, enjoyed crafts, playing bridge, and was an excellent seamstress who designed and made her own clothes.

 

    Mary Lou is survived by her husband Ray, daughter Marti (Fred) Carver, sons David and Larry (Nancy), grandchildren Luke and Amanda Overmire, a sister Nancy (Phil) Kepner, and many nieces and nephews.

 

    The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to  Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Fl. New York, NY 10001 in her memory.
