Carl W. Nahorn
Carl W. Nahorn, 79 of Lorain died peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2008
while in the care of his family and the New Life Hospice Center at St.
Joseph, ending an extended battle with cancer. Mr. Nahorn was born in
Lorain, Ohio on May 18, 1928, the son of the late William L. Nahorn and
Florence Katherine (nee Neese) Nahorn Nirschel. He live his entire life in
Lorain and was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.
Carl was a generous and loving husband and father, gifted with the
ability to make his wife, children and grandchildren feel as if they were
the most important people in his life. He was a skilled self-taught
carpenter whose work ethic and ambition were evident at an early age and
lasted throughout out his life. By eight years of age he was helping to
support his family by delivering hundreds of papers a day, both before and
after school, and still at 78 was renovating a house between bouts of
chemotherapy. His determination was endless.
At sixteen years of age, Carl the quarterback of his football team,
met the love of his life in Janice Golini. The two were married on May 15,
1948 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
Their years of marriage provided a foundation and example for their four
children and eight grandchildren, who all found inspiration in their love.
Carl worked for American Ship Building before becoming an independent
painting contractor and later retired as the head groundskeeper at George
Daniel Field. Yet Carl was not the type of man to sit for long and after
retirement took jobs doing maintenance for his church as well as the
Christian Temple, Disciples of Christ Church.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Janice (nee Golini) Nahorn, three
daughter, Sandie and husband Ted Silver of Winterport, Maine; Carole and
husband Tom DeCarlo of Lorain, and Jenny and husband Toby Ramirez of
Amherst, as well as his son Bill and wife Diane Nahorn of Amherst, Also
fondly remembering him are his eight grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Nirschel.
Carl did not wish to have a service but instead asked that his family
celebrate the life that he lived. His family would like to acknowledge the
care Carl and his family received from the New Life Hospice staff. They
suggest any memorial contributions be made to the New Life Hospice , c/o
