William H. Melia

 

    William H. Melia, 92 of Lorain passed away on Friday morning, August 1, 2008 at the New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph in Lorain following a brief illness.


     Mr. Melia was born in New Castle,  England, on April 27, 1916, the son of the late Michael A and Florence (nee Davis) Melia.


     He was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1934 B.


     He retired in 1978 from US Steel Lorain with 42 1/2 years of service,  having worked as a machinist and a machine shop foreman. He also was a merchant marine, working on a freighter for US Steel on the Great Lakes.


     He was a member of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, Senior Fellowship, was a former Black River Township Fireman, and was an avid bowler and golfer.


     Mr. Melia is survived by his wife Laura M. (nee Erbs) Melia, to whom he had been married for 67 years, a daughter Wilma J. (Thomas) McFadden of Lorain, a son Larry W. (Barbara) Melia of Avon, grandchildren Christopher F. McFadden, Elizabeth A. Board, Susan M. Burke, and Kathryn M. Melia, and 5 great grandchildren.


     In addition to his parents,  he was preceded in death by sisters  Jenny Scherfling  and Ada Wright.


      Friends may call on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 2-6 PM at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.


     Funeral Services at the funeral home will be on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 10:30 AM with Rev Greg Sellers, pastor of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, officiating.


     Burial will be in  Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township, OH.
