
Herbert L. Kapanke
Herbert L. Kapanke, 90, of
Lorain passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Anchor Lodge
Retirement Village in Lorain following a brief illness.
Mr. Kapanke was born in Sandusky on August 31, 1918, the son of the
late August and Augusta (nee Dircks) Kapanke. He was a lifelong resident
of Lorain and a graduate of Lorain High School.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, and a
longtime Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Kapanke was a retired finish carpenter at Del Lumber Co. in
Elyria, with 52 years experience in the lumber business. He also worked
for the former Lawson Lumber and the Black River Lumber Companies.
He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a member of the Senior
Bowling League at Rebman's and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, model
railroading, and bowling.
Mr. Kapanke is survived by a daughter Laurene (Bill) Cyran, a son
Keith (Ellen) Kapanke both of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, 8 great
grandchildren, a nephew, Jerome (Sharon) Pasti of Avon, whom he raised
with his wife Mary, sisters Hilda Lamprecht and Dorothy Hammond both of
Sandusky,
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary
L. (nee Pasti) Kapanke on Jan. 18, 2006. sisters Esther Fix, Laurene
Schwab and a brother Clarence Kapanke.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 7-9 PM in the
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain.
Funeral Services will be in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church,
603 Washington Ave, in Lorain, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 3rd,
with Rev. Jimmy Madsen and Rev. Dr. L. H. Chamberlain, co-pastors,
officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst
Township, OH.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to First
