Juanita E. Mathews
Miss Juanita E. Mathews, 89 of Avon died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the
Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon following a long illness.
Ms. Mathews was born in Huron, Ohio on August 1, 1918. She was a
graduate of Huron High School, class of 1935. She then graduated from the
Frances Payne School of Nursing. She began her career in practical nursing,
serving the counties health districts of Erie, Lorain and Knox. She retried
in 1978. A recognized expert in the field of elementary school health
education, she was published in several professional magazines.
Following her retirement, she enjoyed her retirement in her Winter Park
Florida home for 29 years before returning home to be near her family.
She is survived by her caregivers, nephews Doug Mathews of Lorain,
Chase Heyman of Norwalk and a niece Dawn Moreno also of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents DeLacy and Jennie M. (nee
Thomson) Mathews, brother William and Calvin Mathews.
Graveside services in the Scott Cemetery, Huron-Avery Road in Huron,
Ohio, will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 3, 2008.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Avon
Oaks Activity Program, 37800 French Creek Road, Avon, Ohio, 44011 in her
memory.
