David F. Hyer
David F. Hyer, 69 of Lorain died Sunday evening, December 2, 2007 at his
home.
Mr. Hyer was born in Lorain on March 9, 1938 and was a lifelong
resident. He was a 1957A graduate of Lorain High School and a member of
Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst.
He was a veteran of the US Army 4th Calvary-Long Range Recon. He was a
member of American Legion Post 30, serving on the Executive Board and the
Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Lorain Veterans Council and the
United Polish Club.
Mr. Hyer had been employed for 25 years at GM Fisher Guide in Elyria,
followed by 5 years employment at Chevy in Parma. He retired in 1993.
He was a Civil War "buff," traveling to many battle sites. He was a
model ship builder and a Titanic historian. He built a 7 foot replica of the
Titanic.
Mr. Hyer is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlotte (nee Mucha) Hyer,
daughters, Jayne Carroll of Pinckney, MI, Holly Barnes and Heather Hyer both
of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, and a brother Bruce James Hyer of Medina.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Lia Marie Carroll and his
parents Frank H. and Minnie (nee Reid) Hyer.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 4-8 PM in the
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral Services at the funeral home will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday,
December 6, 2007 with Rev. James E. Smucker, pastor of Heritage Presbyterian
Church, officiating.
Burial, with full military honors provided jointly by American Legion
Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 451will be in Elmwood
Cemetery Lorain, OH.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Heritage
Presbyterian Church, PO Box 834, Amherst, Ohio 44001, or New Life Hospice,
c/o Community Health Partners Foundation, 3600 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio
44053.

Sadness to hear of your Dads passing. He will be remembered for all of his
strengths and all of the great times we all shared.
I know that he had a welcome committee to greet him, and I am sure that he
