Margaret
H. Hudak
Margaret H. Hudak, 96 (nee Beattie) of Elyria, formerly of Lorain, died
Friday evening, February 23, 2007, at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria
following a brief illness.
Mrs. Hudak was born in Plymouth, Indiana on March 27, 1910. She moved
to Lorain in 1941 and began her career as the children's department of the
Lorain Public Library. She also served as a library associate in the
Bookmobile services. She retired in 1975. Following her retirement she
served on the Library Board of Trustees for 17 years, including a term as
secretary.
She attended Wittenberg College, where she met and subsequently married
former Amherst Marion L. Steele High School coach Joseph J. Hudak. Mr. Hudak
preceded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Hudak was a very active member of First Evangelical Lutheran
Church Lorain. She was also a member of Wimodaughsis. She volunteered with
the Ohio Library Trustee Association, American Library Trustee Association,
Lorain YWCA, Lorain County Church Women, serving as president from
1982-1987, and served as a citizen representative to the Lorain City School
Board Of Education for more than 20 years.
She was appointed by the late Mayor Woody Mathna to the Mayor's
Committee on Human Relations. She enjoyed reading mysteries and was a
distinguished cookie baker.
Mrs. Hudak is survived by a daughter Mary Rawlings of Rocky River,
sons and daughters-in-law James B & Mary Hudak of Orinda, CA, Joseph J. &
Kathleen Hudak of Miami, FL, and grandchildren James & Bill Hudak of San
Francisco, CA, Jacqueline, Casey & Madeline Hudak all of Orinda, CA, Amy &
Joey Hudak of Miami, FL and Elizabeth Rawlings of Seattle, WA.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents
James B. and Huldah (nee Johnson) Beattie.
Friends may call Monday, February 26, 2007, from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at
Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral Services will be in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603
Washington Ave., Lorain at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, with
Rev. Jimmy Madsen and Rev. Dr. L. H. Chamberlain, co-pastors, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township,
OH.
