Elaine Donna Mower

 

     Miss Elaine Donna Mower, 90 of Lorain died Thursday, August 31, 2006.

     She was born on November 27, 1915, in Lorain.

     Miss Mower graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1934A, the second in her class. She went on to graduate from Mt. Sinai School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1937. She joined United Airlines as a stewardess in 1939. She served thirteen months in the Army Nurse Corps as a second lieutenant during WW II. She continued working for United Airlines as a stewardess, supervisor and chief stewardess at Kennedy International Airport for thirty-nine years.
     She enjoyed traveling during vacations and took trips to Northern Europe, Hungary, Russia, Africa, Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji and the west coast of South America.
     Miss Mower also lived in Cleveland, Chicago and New York.
     Survivors include her caregivers, niece Ruth Roden of Avon Lake and nephew William Mower of Amherst, and a great nephew.
     She was preceded in death by her parents Charles H. and ZeRua J. (nee Hill) Mower and a brother Robert E. Mower in 2002.
     Friends may call Saturday, September 9, 2006, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH. The Reverend Stephen Sedgwick, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Lorain County Animal Protective League, 3303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio  44035 or the New Life Hospice, c/o Community Hospital Foundation, 3600 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio  44053.
