Charles A. Hellinger

 

     Charles A. "Chuck" Hellinger, 87 of Lorain died Monday evening, June 18, 2006, at his home following a long illness.


     Mr. Hellinger was born in Lorain, OH on May 24, 1919, and was a lifelong resident. He served with the active Coast Guard onboard an oil tanker in the South Pacific during WW II.


     He was a member of the Christian Temple, Disciples of Christ Church, serving as a trustee and a Deacon. He also served as assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop # 306.


     Mr. Hellinger greatly enjoyed his family, loved gardening, traveling and was an avid "rock hound."


     He worked for American Shipbuilding before the war, worked 27 years at Elmer Hume Construction as a carpenter and iron hanger, and retired from the former Lorain Telephone Company in 1984 after 17 years.


     Mr. Hellinger is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred L. (nee Long) Hellinger, daughter Connie K. Hellinger of Lorain, sons Donn A. Hellinger of New Carlisle, OH, Terry S. Hellinger of Larkspur, CO, 2 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, sisters  Iris  A Murray of Lorain, OH., Barbara J. Barrett of Amherst, OH and several nieces and nephews.


     He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey C. and Alta A. (nee Falconer) Hellinger and a brother   Harvey C. Hellinger, Jr.


     Friends may call on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, from 10:00 AM until the Memorial Service in Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, 904 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, with Rev. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor officiating.


     Burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township will be at a later date.


     Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, C/O Community Health Partners Foundation 3700 Kolbe Road Lorain, OH 44053-9905 or Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, 904 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio, 44052.


     The Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio is handling the arrangements.
